Scientific Investigation Skills

Students worked through a work package regarding all aspects of scientific investigation skills. We discussed all concepts through a series of powerpoints and students were able to consolidate their learning by completing the fill in the blank notes and practice problems. Samples of this series of powerpoints/notes can be found below.

The following documents were given to students in order to help them with lab report writing for the duration of the course.

Sample PEOE

The following template, designed by Smart Science, was used to complete a sample PEOE near the end of the unit so that students could practice their scientific inquiry skills. We used the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uHxRwQqWFo to complete the PEOE.

Biology - Tissues, Organs, and Systems of Living Things

Below, a variety of instructional tools and formative assessments for the SNC2D biology unit can be found.

Frog Dissection Summative Assessment

The students really enjoyed this summative assessment. They loved the practical, hands-on, learning that they got while completing the dissection. Any students that were morally opposed or felt they would not be well while doing the dissection were given the opportunity to complete an online virtual dissection.

Chemistry - Chemical Reactions

Unit Plan

Water and Calcium Inquiry Lab

Students completed this inquiry activity as a class to explore classifying and balancing chemical reactions. It was a great inquiry activity for students to also start exploring the scientific process.

Plant Inquiry Lab - Final Assessment

Students were given the task of choosing a variable and investigate its effect on plant growth. Students were able to demonstrate their learning of the biology unit as well as the scientific investigation skills unit.
